Andy Goldsworthy makes sculptures outdoors, and he takes photos of them. He uses only natural materials for the sculptures. He uses nature and man-made elements to tie pictures together. He often uses contrast between colors of objects he uses. His first photos date back to 1975 with negatives and slides. He likes to have the maximum depth of field to capture his sculpture. He was inspired from the natural world. That includes snow, sticks, roots, leaves, and rocks. He also pays attention to how the light illuminates the photos, and how the wind animates the photos.
“I have become aware of how nature is in a state of change and how that change is the key to understanding. I want my art to be sensitive and alert to changes in material, season and weather… My sculpture can last for days or a few seconds – what is important for me is the experience of making. I leave all my work outside and often return to watch it decay” (Andy Goldsworthy Digital Catalogue: Selected Extracts).
Inspired Pilgrimage
The concept of my photos were my dogs randomly throughout the day. They are outside, sleeping, or just waiting for me to pet them. Emily's photo series inspired this series of my dogs. The photos relate to my old photo series because they consider the depth of field as well.
